Van Don Island is around 50km from Halong City Center to the northeast. This is the largest island on Bai Tu Long Bay covering 600 islands with 20 ones inhabited by local people. The area has been received more and more tourist attention thanks to an abundance of favorable conditions including crystal clear beaches, several historical sites, and mesmerizing natural scenery.
How to get there
The distance from Hanoi to Van Don is around 220km and there are many buses running directly from My Dinh and Giap Bat Bus Station to Van Don or Cua Ong such as Hoang Long, Duc Phuc. The total transfer time is 4 – 5 hours.
Best time to travel
Summer is considered the best time to visit Van Don with beautiful weather, clear sky, and less rainfall. Quan Lan Festival is also taken place during this time (10th – 20th June in lunar calendar), making Van Don more appealing to tourist with multiple interesting customs and activities.

Bai Tu Long Bay
This lesser-known bay possesses untouched and charming beauty. It encompasses a vast area of the Halong Bay area, often visited by mid-sized cruises namely Swan, Indochina Junk, Bhaya Cruises.
Quan Lan Beach
Quan Lan is an ideal spot for a beach vacation. The beach is clean and almost non-touristy.
Bai Tu Long National Park
Adjacent to Bai Tu Long Bay, the park significantly includes 10 ha of mangrove forests as well as is the house of rare plants and animal species.
